Good chance you will flunk Grid Tech with that tire, although it depends on if that part of the tire is visible to the inspectors when they reach your car. If it's seen at the shop tech, it will not pass.

Common on older Kumho V710s. Looks scary but no real problem. Usually the driven tire (Rear in our cars). Put the tire on the front and the mold line in the outer rubber stops separating. This isn't a structural problem. I didn't think newer 710s still did that, what's your build date?

I'm no tire expert, but I know something about cracking and fracture, and I wouldn't even consider using that tire anymore. Crack growth tends to be exponential, which means that once the crack is detected, just 'keeping an eye on it' isn't good enough. If the tire blows at high speed, think about the potential consequences ...

That's interesting to hear. I can almost guarantee my tires are of the "older" nature...they're 7-8yrs old at this point. Given their age, I think I will pass on using this tire.

Absolutely. Interesting how, with enough UV + heat, a thermoplastic elastomer can become so brittle. Cool (except when it means I have to buy new tires).

Lol. You guys have a good point. I have no ex-wife, so I have decided to discard the tire.

What do you guys think about replacing the bad tire with a used tire (note: almost dead, like the rest of my Victoracers)? Yes, there will be differences. But given that I'm not looking to win championships or anything, is this a terrible idea? I've never really thought about this -- it's always been something we just say "you don't do".

I just moved and do not feel much like shelling out the unseen cost of a new set of tires.
