and anything with coolant ... and anything with a motor in the front ... and anything that doesn't smell like the bilge of a whaling ship ... ... is not a Porsche.

Exactly. Do not resist the Borg. Assimilate. VW is a kind and nurturing parent
(company).

Uhhhh yes....that's already begun. "Das Auto" is already in the driveway. But the Porsche gets the garage....that's the deal.

I am concerned about VW management being in control of decisions concerning Porsche. Econonies of Scale is the name of the game at VW in a big way. Develop a few platforms and spread them around the products.
There has already been serious talk about the standard 2011 Boxster using a VW engine. Some have hinted that it will have a flat four derived off of the M97. As some of you may know, I published a magazine on Lamborghinis for about 10 years. I saw first hand what VW managment does to "independent" thinkers. The transition to the "new" Lambo was painful. It is why I sold the business. VW is so centralized in its management structure that any uniquiness is ousted. Bentley's experience was not that much different. Wiedeking gambled and lost. He may have saved Porsche back in the 90's, but his gamble to take over VW has quite possibly ended an independent Porsche. We will have to see. Much has not been determined yet. The future will be decided in the coming month. However, there is so much bad blood between Porsche and VW it will come down to who has the strongest position at the bargaining table. Porsche's debt weakens thier position. Let's not forget, they do own 35% interest in VW, so this may act in thier favor. Time will tell. Last edited by Porsche_Driving_Club; 05-08-2009 at 01:17 PM. |
