That is old school, before every soccer mom drove a truck. I used to tow a boat all over creation with an Oldsmobile 98.

I remember checking what the towing capicity was for Crown Vic's a while back. I was expecting a big number, but was disapointed.

"The driver is not in the picture, the police man just happened to be driving on the service road, the man in front of the car stopped to assist. I wish I had a picture of the diver, he is probably at least 70 ish, cruising along smoking a pipe."

^ Was years later before they became available for general use (but at $3K each you have to wonder how many).
IIRC the real issue is the lack of a frame. Which means nothing more substantial than the trunk floor to mount a decent hitch. Seems like mid to late ‘70s was the last of the big US sedans w/actual frames. That said I towed a camping trailer all over the eastern US and Canada with a Merc Topaz for many years. From the outer banks to Thunder Bay and as far west as Minnesota our kids grew up “roughing” it in a Star Craft popup!

A former Aston Martin manager at the dealership was all into them. Had a nice one shipped over from the other side of the pond at some point. A bit much for what you get from my view but the same could be said for many older Porsches too
