+1 on the U-Haul if you don't want to buy one. Was under $100 for the weekend years ago. I used to rent one before I bought my own. The hydraulic brakes work fairly well and are a must for safety in an emergency stop. However I would recommend you buy your own straps/tie downs. Many times they just get stored on the trailer and are exposed to the elements and are of questionable reliability and ease of use.

If you don't mind swapping tires and disconnecting half shafts you can always dolly your racecar.

Your tow vehicle can be just about anything and will burn a lot less fuel.

I asked a similar question at RRT and they mentioned JLR in Manassas. They rent enclosed and open it looks like.

Just back it on the dolly, long time Dorki used to do that with his SC Still think a 4 Runner is not enough to pull that weight.

The 4Runner handled the 997 and U-Haul trailer with no problem through the hills of SoMD. With a lightened track car, I'm thinking it shouldn't be a problem with a steel open trailer - even an enclosed trailer shouldn't exceed tow capacity.

The wheel base is just a few tenths short of 110, so stability up to a 20' trailer shouldn't be a problem. Trailer brakes should take care of any issue with being able to stop it.

What am I missing? I'm not trying to cross the Rockies - and at this point, not even the Shenandoahs.

Hmm. That's cutting it pretty fine on the margin. Freightliner is safer.

If thinking enclosed, You are missing the massive air drag of an enclosed trailer.

In any vehicle, I would not tow anything more than 80% of the tow vehicles capacity. Remember, that tow capacity includes any weight in the truck too. Gear, tools, spares, tires, Jacks, etc.

^ Agree and while trailer brakes are a must when towing a car the tow vihicle has to be up to the job too! My f150 4 wheel disk brakes still needed an upgrade pad before it worked right.
