I agree about late passes in the instructed groups...but...if you're going to do it, tuck in right behind the passing car (unless you do an over/under and pass him back because you were able to take a better line).

Regarding long sleeves and pants - the long sleeves are a safety issue, and a race car may be LESS likely to burn than a street car, and certainly less flammable material in the passenger compartment. Consider zip-offs and take off the left lower leg (no one can complain about your prosthetic being exposed) but leave your right leg covered. and consider a cool shirt. There's a DIY cooler thread on this board (started by Fritz) and you can buy the shirt for about $150. It makes a HUGE difference!

Only 150?! I thought cool shirts were way more. Definitely getting them! Zip off pants are not cotton. They are usually nylon type material. They allowed short sleeves for the weekend, just not shorts. Think for pants, I'll just get some scrub pants. Those are a lot cooler than jeans.

Actually the shirt is $150 but you still need to do the cooler, pump and hose. Go to OGRacing, com to see what we are talking about. Fritz did a great article on how to make the cooler etc.

Hiking pants (most are cotton) can be had w/zip off lower legs. I used to have a couple of pair. Try looking on some of the outdoor/camping sites.
Lots have worn shirts under lightweight cotton overalls. Simply take the overalls off when in the pits/classroom.

Kenny,
Cool Shirts can work very well to help extract heat from your body. But take a good look at the installation needs for the cooler portion. They are known to leak a bit, and most race cars don't have carpeting and leather seats. You might be able to rig up something in the trunk, as long as you can run power to it, and route the water tubing back to you.

Also, Cool Shirts available with an integrated hood under the helmet. Helps route cooling your head as well as your torso.

I wear scrubs with shorts under, easy to remove between runs. Not sure what the officials will say if you cut the one scrub leg off, the prosphetic wont burn and the other leg protected. Some venues like VIR and the Glen do not allow shorts, but like last weekend did allow us (Potomac) to make the call on short sleeves at your own risk!

If you are not too afraid of looking like Fred from Scooby Doo, try these bandannas out. They have water absorbing gel granules in them. If you soak the bandanna in a cooler of ice water, the granules absorb the cold water and swell. Tie it around your neck and it cools your neck which does an amazing job of cooling the rest of your body.

Here's a few clips of my runs at Watkins. I was trying different camera locations during the weekend. All of these are from my original GoPro. I had the center mounted GoPro 3 in a resolution I didn't like so I didn't include any from it. When turning the GoPro 3 on once I must have pressed a button a few extra times and ended up changing the resolution . Damn GoPro usability. Next time I'm going to verify it's resolution and direction using WiFi, my iPhone and the GoPro App (if I remember).

Notice how bumpy the track was this year. Especially up the esses.

Great event and venue as always. Thanks to everyone that showed up and especially to those who helped me at tech.

I like the rearview over the bridge. Really shows how narrow that section is.

How were the brakes? T8 is were I would expect some icy symptoms.

No icing issues although I was braking earlyier than necessary in T1 and T8 (light breaking before downhill) to prevent it. T6 was the only spot I would get real loose under breaking. No icing but I did have to delay my turn in a few times.
