Im starting the search for a used 2 car enclosed hauler and would appreciate feedback on "must have" and "nice to have but not critical" features. I know Jase pulls a multi vehicle rig. Tow rig is a big diesel pickup w/ 8' bed. Things I've gathered from discussions w/ guys at the track:
* Gooseneck - tighter turn rad, more storage, better weight distribution * 3 axles - Prevents trailer from rocking as much when entering gas stations or pulling over ditches (and having trailer contact truck bed). Also allows driving a short distance w/ a flat. * 40' min - Seems there is 8' in most attics, so thats 32' on the floor. Tight for a pair of ~14' cars. 42-44' would be better. I need room for a toolbox but no cabinets. Im planning for tires/fuel jugs/etc to go on the walls. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac (about 80'diam if there are no cars parked). I MIGHT be able to swing it around - else I have to back it down the street. Either way, would like for it to be as short as possible but still "big enough". * Height? Im ~6'2" so Id like one above the minimum. Ducking sucks. Definately adds a lot of space in the attic. Is any more than a extra foot worth it? * Color? I'd prefer white just to stay cool inside in the summer. Are most walls/roofs insulated? If so, does it make difference (seems about 1/2 of used trailers are black/red) * Where to look? I've been searching ebay and racing junk. Any other good sites? Are there any semi-local dealers that would have any? Im not driving to FL or TX for a trailer. TN/WV/PA/OH are do-able. * I'd like to add a small rootop A/C eventually - Can this be done on a curved roof? I get heat exhaustion/stroke very easily and hiding inside is about the only way Im going to survive mid-summer events. * Generator/door? I was hoping to just pay for an electric hookup at the track. I dont think I really need a dedicated generator (other than maybe just a small portable honda or something). * Awning? Shade + space to work in the rain? Looks easy enough to add later. * Lighting? Exterior flood lights seem nice to work on the car (or party) after dark. Also looks easy enough to add later. Help a trailer newbie out!
