So I was doing some VW research and found the Salzburg Rally VW from the early 70's. Which due to my other rally thread got the wheels turning...again. I found this site which lists the specs of the VW cars http://www.rallybugs.com/bugbuild.htm And a few things come up:

The site list that they used a 914 gear box, so my first is for the 914 guys, will a 914 mate to a VW motor? Or is there an adapter that would be needed? Specifically mate to a aircooled 1600cc and not a TypeIV.

Second, they use the 1302S and 1303S (which I think are the internal designator for the Super beetle) but to my knowledge neither of these had disc brakes. My second question to the VW guys, was there a VW that came with disc brakes? I'm looking on thesamba as well, but figured I'd ask. Just a personal preference as I'd like disc over drums on a rally VW.
