Default Fumoto Oil Drain Valve

Has anyone used this? Several people on Pelican swear by it, but wanted to get some reviews from Dorkis.

Here's a photo I found of it on Pelican.

Seems a lot more susceptible to damage from track debris than the regular plug. I'd hate to have that thing shear off and oil down the track.

I use them on many of my cars. The biggest problem is that the opening is small and it takes a long time for the oil to drain out. So, while it makes the job cleaner, I don't think it saves any time on an oil change.

I believe Rob is using one in his 911 SC in the same position in the photo. I had one in my Audi when it took an impact at Summit Point and it held up perfectly.

The one thing to think about is that for drain plugs facing directly down, a bit of oil will stay in the oil pan. In my F350, I checked it out, and there was about 3 or 4 oz of oil left in the pan, when the Fumoto was used. I used to have a concern about this, but when you think about how much oil is left in the motor and the oil cooler lines/oil cooler, leaving 3 or 4 ounces in the pan is not a big deal.

This solves a problem that doesnt exist. Nothing wrong with it I suppose but not needed.

Jim is correct. I've had one on the SC since ~2008. Been off track several times with no issues.

This also helps if you over-fill, and need to drain a little oil out.

Ding ding ding! More than once I have seen the oil spill aftermath at the track when someone tried to let a "little" oil out only to get their fingers deep fried and then drop the plug.

I'll have to look into a valve on the line from my 914 tank to the engine...I hear it's a pain to drain w/o one.
