Mucking around with the iPhone

While I look for a job I've been designing a couple of products for the iPhone. Having been working in management and marketing it's been a while since I put together a whole app, so I tackled the simpler idea first.

Six Words is a game of sorts that helps you learn the real essentials of a variety of languages. Watch a demo here:

Cool! Could come in handy for those who travel frequently.

Yep! Next steps are to add a tab bar to the bottom of the screen to switch between sets of six words: Greetings, Food, Drink, Places and Emergencies. That way I stick with the handful-of-words concept by having a handful-of-handfuls.

Can't put the, umm, adult stuff on the tabs but that'll be available as an easter egg, I'm sure folks'll figure out how to get to it.

On the other hand, once you've learned the words for wine, hotel and please how much more spoken language do you need?

I spent a week in Germany knowing how to say:
"one beer please."
"Bathrooms?"
"Speak English?"
"Thank you."
"Go fast"
and the particularly useful when you find yourself in a ghey bar by mistake: "I like girls."

Being an engineering employee of a particular little fruit company in CA, I might be able to help out a little with this. Let me know what you'd like to accomplish with it.

Next time you find yourself in a gay bar in Deutschland, just say: "Klar bin ich schwule, na ja, der echte bewegte Mann."

that will take you far.

Is that from a personal experience?

little known fact, but before joining the dorki board td had a capital "s" in front of his screen name. just like the hoff, he used to be 'popular' in the fatherland
