I am taking my Targa Bar tommorow and will inquire. If you're talking Fuchs wouldn't they blast off all the anodizing and then otherwise mess them up?

Hey Dave!

I have heard that is a major no no to powder coat wheels because it will hide cracks, which obviously would be a major problem. I had thought about it myself . . .

I'm not sure about whether it's the *right* or *correct* thing to do w/ wheels. I just think it will clean them up and have a durable, easy to clean finish. Some wheels seem to come powdercoated from the factory, sometimes straight from manufacturer (Fikse, Kinesis) and I'm not sure they would offer such a service/finish if it was detrimental.

Steve,
Ask them for me when you're there. Yes, I am planning on doing that to a set of Fuchs, they are 6's and I don't really know whether it ruins them. If that's not gonna get done, I'll scuff 'em up myself and put a can of black Krylon on them anyway.

FYI, you can get powdercoated HRE's, BBS, and as Dave said Fikse, Kinesis wheels.

Are you sure that they are actually powder coated rather than being finished with some other type of clearcoat or paint? Larry Herman was actually one of the guys telling me how dangerous it is to powder coat wheels because I was asking about his black wheels and thinking about having my new rims powder coated (which I agree would make them easier to clean). If I remember correctly, I think he personally knew of some people whose powder coated wheels suffered failure that could have been detected earlier if not for the powder coating.

Are they powdercoated in clear or in a color? Maybe the guys who were talking about the dangers of powder coating were referring to colors rather than clear (we were discussing black)?

I personally don't know much about this issue. I am just passing on what I heard.

Todd, yes they are in fact powder coated. However, what you're saying about failure does make sense .

it's decided then, I'll be playing w/ krylon.... cheaper too but it does shift all the cleaning/scrubbing work onto my shoulders :?
