May be we can combine to get the "bulk" rate?. Andy

Hey Andy, Are you rebuilding your 3.6?

Will this shop, ASC, mediablast your parts for you?

Dave O 04-03-2005 12:00 AM

Steve,

Yes they do. They really have to since they need to be sure they get a good bond for the powder coating, and they won't want to take anyone elses 'cleaning' job for granted. Bring the parts in just like they came off the engine (I did and they didn't bat an eye).

I'm still about 2 weeks away from de-greasing, rinse, sandblasting and powdercoating onsite. I'm planning to do only car, and motorcyle appearance coatings, nothing else. I'll let the board know when I get things fully running. May offer free coatings (or just cost of the powder) to get things started for Dorki's.

Keith,

What are "appearance" coatings?

Yesterday I took off my targa bar and plan to take that to ASC. Anyone have tips on what I should tell them to do? I guess the paint (or whatever it is) should be stripped to bare metal first. I heard a tale on Pelican about some overzealous sandblaster warping the metal..

KeithLambert7 04-03-2005 07:09 PM

Appearance coatings are metallics, clears, transluscents, chameleons...etc. They're more popular with the sport bike and hod rod crowds. I'll do those in addition to any normal car colors.

regarding your Targa parts and ASC. I'd take the part to them 'as-is'. They'll re-do whatever pre-prepped part you bring them anyway. I would only trust my own prep process (to insure quality), and they're probably the same way. Explain to them it's a delicate part, and they can't use an aggressive media.

Keith
