Default Helmet face shield

Any tech issue with removing the face shield from a helmet? Or is the idea that you drop it in place in case of fire?

DE Tech does not require a full-face helmet unless you are in an open cockpit car.

Don't lose the screws, Bob. I decided to put mine back on (for just the reason you mention, also driving in the cold), and had to pay for another set of screws - I could find all but one...

FWIW, I leave the face shield in place and down while driving. If you happen to get off track sideways, dirt will fly into your face through the open window.

I drive with mine fully down or barely cracked. Have had stuff fly through the open window a few time and glad that I had the face shield. One time something hit my upper arm and after I came in, my arm was bleeding.

BTW, would the faceshield protect during a fire?

Depends upon the faceshield. I've read a story of a driver caught in a burning car, and the faceshield had melted onto his face. I know the SA helmets for auto racing are designed for fire, thus the nomex liner. I have to believe the faceshield is also fire resistant. M rated helmets (motorcycle) probably not.

prolly your passenger

I bought my first full coverage helmet this year... Been hit many times by track trash. I wear perscription safety glasses so have had some protection in the past. Allways used open face helments on bikes too (except winter). Don't like the full coverage helmets but they do offer a higher degree of protection.
