Cup Car motor = robust GT3 motor
Very few failures at the track. Maybe a bargain after all ?

Have you seen how these things are driven in Porsche cup? I bet the rebuild reco is based on that level of use. Everyone is focusing on rebuild. Even with an enduro, you run 3hrs on a race weekend. even at 6 races/year, it take 5 years to reach the 100 hr rebuild time. To me that is the same as trying to keep any car on the top of the power band, but none of us with our converted cars ever consider that.
I still say you can set up a cup car for DOT R-compound for DEs and get way over 100 hrs without any problem. Just do not expect to get top $$ when selling. To me the running cost is not the engine rebuild or the 100 octane gas. It is the slicks, support you need during the race weekend, and the pro-support you need to learn to drive it the way it is meant to be.

We will see how PCA Club racing rules the dry sump option. This alone won't solve the oiling problem across the M96/M97 motors. I have been told repeatedly that there are large variances in the crank bearing clearances that need to be rectified during a rebuild. Some of the clearances are super tight and others very loose. Your oil finds the easy way through.
I still need to decide what to do to help make the SPB motor last within the allowance of the rules. Maybe I have just had bad luck. Many other folks are on original street motors. Thanks for the all the input and discussion. I love hearing everyone's ideas.

Matt:
Thanks for the info. Seems like the M96/7 motors can pop at anytime. Interesting that LN has changed their IMS bearing design.

I read that thread... What I mostly got was bickering over the 2009+ engines being called 9A1 or MA01 ???

This is not dead yet. We are moving forward with a build.
In the past several months I have had lots of dialogue with PCA on the legality and applicability of a dry sump system for a M96/M97 engine. They are open to the idea. Details soon.
